When Should You Book Newborn Photos in Syracuse, Utah?

The short answer: reach out during pregnancy, before the newborn days arrive. You don't need to know your baby's exact birthday to start planning newborn photos.

If you're looking for a newborn photographer in Syracuse, Utah, a consultation gives you time to choose the kind of session you want, understand the investment, and talk through how scheduling works around your due date.

Once your baby is here, you'll have plenty to think about. Choosing your photographer ahead of time gives you one less decision to make between feedings, diaper changes, and figuring out where you left your water bottle.

Book the conversation before your baby arrives

I recommend starting the conversation during your second trimester. That gives us time to talk about your priorities and check availability without making photography another last-minute task.

Already in your third trimester? Still reach out. And if your baby has already arrived, you haven't failed a deadline. Ask about current availability, and we can discuss what may work for your baby's age and your family's needs.

Booking ahead starts with a conversation, rather than guessing which date your baby will choose. During your consultation, we'll discuss your due date and the next steps for planning your session.

What happens if your baby arrives early or late?

Due dates are helpful for planning, but babies have their own ideas.

Before you book, we'll talk through how to keep me updated after your baby arrives and how we'll coordinate the session date. If your recovery or your baby's needs change the plan, let me know so we can discuss the options.

You don't need to promise a perfectly predictable arrival. You just need a clear plan for staying in touch.

What kind of newborn photographs do you want?

Before choosing a session, think about what you want to remember: your baby's tiny features, the way they fit in your hands, or the first portraits of your growing family.

Looking through my newborn photography gallery can help you notice what you're drawn to. Do you love simple, neutral portraits? More styled setups? Images that include parents or siblings?

If you prefer a simple baby-only session, ask about my Neutral Petite Newborn option. It focuses on swaddled baby portraits and includes one parent-hands image; full family portraits aren't part of that session, and it doesn't require a consultation. If photographs with parents or siblings are a priority, mention that at your consultation so we can discuss a full session suited to those images.

You don't need a finished shot list. A few favorites and a sense of what matters most are a good place to start.

What should you ask at your consultation?

Your consultation should help you understand both the experience and the investment. Here are a few useful questions:

  • Which session option fits the photographs I want?

  • How do we coordinate the date after my baby arrives?

  • What does the session fee cover, and how are images and artwork purchased?

  • What should I bring, and what is available in the studio?

  • How will I choose my finished photographs?

I offer consultations in person or through Google Meet. We can talk through your questions, your preferences, and how you'd like to enjoy your photographs afterward, whether that means digital images, an album, or artwork for your home.

If you’re also considering maternity portraits, bring that up while you’re still pregnant so we can discuss both sessions.

Plan for your baby to be a baby

A newborn session doesn’t require a baby who sleeps on command.

My studio sessions are baby-led. We make room for feeding, settling, and changes in what your baby is comfortable doing. Every baby responds differently, and the photographs should reflect care for the little person in front of me.

You also don't need to arrive knowing how to pose or how to make everything look right. I'll guide you through the photography. You can tell me what you love, what concerns you, and when you or your baby need a pause.

I love the Crossfit and the outdoors, but I balance that love with a love of ice cream and Netflix (everything needs balance). My job is the best job around and fabulous hubby and four kids are my biggest cheerleaders. I do all I do for them, just trying to get by like the rest of the world. I love Jesus, and find that love through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I don’t like drama, public speaking or moody teenagers. That’s me in a nutshell…oh and cheese is the best part of life!
